Smooth and reliable performance is delivered through our full parallel hybrid system that pairs an energy-dense 1.56 kWh lithium-ion battery, a lightweight electric motor and the Niro’s new 1.6L, gasoline-direct injection (GDI) engine for a combined 195 lb-ft of torque. The result is high efficiency performance.
Made for Shifting the bar
While many hybrids use a continuously variable transmission (CVT), the Niro raises the bar by using a highly responsive, 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT) that shifts gears smoothly and quickly. The result is a crisp, exhilarating drive. This is how a hybrid should perform.
Made for Every Situation
The Niro makes the most of every driving situation. At low speeds, it will operate in EV (electric vehicle) mode. When you need a little extra power to accelerate and climb, the engine and motor run at the same time. The Niro can even recharge a low battery at fixed speeds.

Made for Seizing the moment
Any time you slow down, the regenerative braking system charges Niro up. Then, during deceleration, the electric traction motor captures the kinetic energy to recharge the battery.

Autonomous emergency braking
City driving can be unpredictable at best. The available Autonomous Emergency Braking system will intervene automatically, providing full braking assistance, up to a complete stop when possible if it detects a potential frontal collision.
Front collision warning system
Always anticipating and ready to automatically respond, the available Forward Collision Warning System (FCWS) gives audible and visual alerts when it detects a potential hazard in your path.
Smart cruise control
Advanced smart cruise control (ASCC) provides the convenience of cruise control with the peace of mind of reacting to road conditions. When vehicles slow down, the available ASCC matches their speed until they accelerate, maintaining a safe distance.
Park Assist
Using sonar sensors integrated in the Niro’s bumpers, the available front and rear parking assist helps you stay informed when you park by giving an audible warning when you near other vehicles or objects.
Backup camera
Get the whole picture when backing up. With the standard rear-camera display you’ll stay in the know about obstacles when reversing.
Rear cross-traffic alert
Stay aware of your surroundings. When reversing, available rear cross traffic alert will detect and warn you of oncoming traffic from the left or right.
Lane departure warning
The available Lane Departure Warning System helps you stay the course by monitoring the position of your Niro and alerting you if you drift from your lane without signaling.
Blind spot detection
If someone is in your blind spot, you’ll know. Available blind-spot detection gives you an alert when a driver passes through it. And lane-change assist notifies you if it’s a bad time to switch lanes.
