Why must we pay for map navigation updates, why are they free in Europe?
Please note that Kia Canada Inc., Kia Motors America, Europe, etc., are separate companies; as such they do have different policies in place associated to the costs for updating navigation maps.

Is it true that if I do not service my vehicle at the Kia dealership it will void my warranty like the dealership says?
While we recommend that our customers have their vehicle maintained at their local Kia dealership, if you choose to have your vehicle serviced elsewhere we encourage you to have the independent garage follow the recommended maintenance schedule noted in your vehicle owner’s manual (Chapter 7). In addition, we advise that you retain all invoices and maintenance records for future reference which substantiates that your vehicle has been serviced and maintained as outlined in your owner’s manual.
Is it true if I do not accept the do the recommended services that the dealership is offering it will void my warranty even if I follow the maintenance schedule set out in my owner’s manual?
Please follow the recommended scheduled maintenance noted in Chapter 7 of your vehicle owner’s manual to maintain warranty coverage. Dealerships may recommend additional services, inspections, etc. based on driving habits, driving conditions, geographical location, etc. We rely on the trained staff within our Kia Dealership Network to provide the best in quality service.

Bluetooth Information

Is there a fee to setup the Bluetooth® wireless technology system on my Kia vehicle?
No, there is no fee associated with setting up the Bluetooth® wireless technology system in a Kia vehicle.
Can past incoming / outgoing calls be retrieved from my Kia vehicle’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system?

Is there a time limit for entering the vehicle pairing pass code into the phone?
The Bluetooth® wireless technology system on your Kia does not place a time limit when you are pairing the phone to the Bluetooth® wireless technology system. The audio unit will continue to show the passkey until you have either entered the passkey or have canceled the operation.
The software in my Blackberry phone was recently upgraded to OS 7.1 and now the phone will not automatically connect to the vehicle’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system, is there anything that can be done?
In order to resolve this concern you will need to change the version on your phone back to an earlier version to resolve the re-connection issues. You should contact Blackberry or your cell service provider for assistance in reverting to the previous operating system version.
I have multiple first name contacts.
If you have multiple first name contacts, please add last name to each contact. The Bluetooth® wireless technology system needs to recognize each individual contact separately.
When connecting my phone to the Bluetooth® wireless technology system on my Kia vehicle, it takes a large amount of time for the phonebook to download; are there any solutions for this?
There are two main reasons that can cause slow downloading of the phonebook. Large contact lists and lengthy call histories can cause slow downloads. The Bluetooth® wireless technology system on your Kia cannot download more than 999 contacts and the larger the amount of contacts the longer it will take to download them. If you are experiencing delays when downloading it is recommended that you delete your call history periodically.
My phone was working fine with the vehicles Bluetooth® wireless technology system but now it will not connect, why is that?
Cell phone manufacturers often will provide software updates for their phones. Cell phone manufacturers may offer the updates as an option, or sometimes the updates are done automatically. Software updates to your phone may cause compatibility issues, resulting in the phone not functioning with your Kia vehicle’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system as it was before the update. Please contact the cell phone manufacturer regarding removal of updates if you believe this has caused compatibility issues with your Kia vehicle’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system.
Why won’t the phonebook download on my Android phone?
Certain Android phones require the user to allow phonebook access. Once phones are paired and connected, you will need to check the notification bar which should show a message to allow the phonebook to download.
What is Bluetooth® wireless technology and how does it work?
Bluetooth® wireless technology is wireless technology that allows multiple devices to be connected such as a cell phone and a vehicle. It allows hands-free phone use in vehicles. It utilizes short-range communications technology to allow devices to be connected without cables. Bluetooth® wireless technology users are able to ‘cut the cords’ and enjoy more freedom and flexibility when using those devices. Can any phone work with Kia’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
Most Bluetooth® wireless technology cellular phones should have SOME functionally with the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system. However, due to differences in phone quality, service providers and Bluetooth® wireless technology chip programming functionality may differ from one phone to another.
What hands-free features are available in Kia’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
Kia’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system allows users to perform several functions without taking your hands from the steering wheel, including making and receiving calls, pairing the phone, connecting the phone, adding entries to the vehicle phone book, and change or deleting names in the phone book.
Can Kia’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system work in different languages?
Yes. This may vary by Kia model equipped with a Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system. However, the 2010 Kia Soul’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system is available in English, Spanish and Canadian French. To change the default language, turn the ignition switch to the ON position, turn on the radio, and then press the switch an extended length of time until the screen changes to show that the language is being changed by displaying the message on the radio of “Please Wait”. The system will announce in the currently used language that it is changing to the next language in the cycle. The change process is complete when the audio display switches back to the radio. Repeat the process through the rotation of languages until you reach the language you are seeking.
Does using my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system have any impact on the battery in my Kia vehicle?
If the vehicle is running, the battery will not be affected when using the Bluetooth® wireless technology system. If the vehicle is not running and the Bluetooth® wireless technology system is being used it can cause the battery to drain as the alternator is not running and keeping the battery charged.
Does Kia recommend any particular phone for use with the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
Most Bluetooth® wireless technology cellular phones should have SOME functionality with the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system. However, due to differences in phone quality, service providers and Bluetooth® wireless technology chip programming functionality may differ from one phone to another.
What is the typical range of the Bluetooth® wireless technology signal in the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
The range can vary depending upon the phone being used and even the battery level of that phone. However, typically, the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system can detect a Bluetooth® wireless technology signal from a registered phone up to 30 feet from the vehicle.
What do I need to do to begin using Kia’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system with my phone?
  1. Pair your Bluetooth® wireless technology compatible phone with the system.
  2. On your phone select the name that matches the car hands-free name.
  3. Then input your car’s passkey, which will be displayed on the screen.
Is it possible to turn Kia’s Bluetooth® wireless technology system off completely?
  1. Press Phone button next to touch screen.
  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Advanced.
  4. Select Bluetooth Off.
How do I place a call using my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system after my phone is paired?
  1. Press the Talk button button on the steering wheel.
  2. Say “call”, “name” or “number” depending upon which way you prefer to call
    • If you said “name”, you will say the name of the person who is registered in your phone book and then say which number you wish to call
    • If you have multiple numbers for that person (e.g. “John office” or “John home”). Finally, say “yes” after being prompted
    • If you said “number”, you will say the phone number you wish to dial, you will be asked to say the number again to confirm, then say “dial”
How do I answer a call using my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
If someone calls you on your Bluetooth® wireless technology-enabled phone, you will hear a ring tone through the speaker system and the screen will change to Phone mode. The phone number of the caller will be displayed on the screen, along with the message “INCOMING”. Simply press Answer button on the steering wheel to answer the call.
How do I end a call using my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
Simply press Disconnect button on the steering wheel.
How do I reject a call using my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
If someone calls you on your Bluetooth® wireless technology phone, you will hear a ring tone through the speaker system and the screen will change to Phone mode. The phone number of the caller will be displayed on the screen, along with the message of “INCOMING”. If you do not wish to take the call, simply press Disconnect button on the steering wheel to reject the call
How can I manage the phonebook in my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
You may add phone numbers and voice tags to your Bluetooth® wireless technology system phonebook by either adding them directly into it or by transferring entries that already exist in your cellular phone. You can also change or delete names that have been registered in the phonebook. To transfer entries from your phone to your Bluetooth® wireless technology system:

  1. Press Talk button on your steering wheel.
  2. Follow the series of prompts by saying “phonebook”.
  3. Then “add entry”.
  4. Then “by voice”.
  5. Say the name of the contact.
  6. Confirm with a “yes”.
  7. You will then be asked to say the phone number.
  8. Say “store”, and identify which number type you are registering (e.g. “home”, “mobile”, “other” or “default”).

If you want to save more than one number for this contact say “yes” to continue that process and follow the similar prompts.
If I have call-waiting on my phone and another call comes in when I’m using my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system, can I answer the second call without losing the original call”
Yes. Simply push Talk button on your steering wheel when you have a call waiting and the first call will be placed on hold and the second call will be activated. Follow the same process to toggle back to the first call and put the second call on hold.
Can I dial an International number using my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
As long as the number is entered correctly (in case of the Canada: 011-Country Code – number), it will work. The audio system is just a conduit for the phone.
How do I adjust the ring volume on the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
Simply press the “+” or “-“ volume control buttons on the steering wheel. Because the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system is a hands-free system, you cannot adjust the volume directly on the volume control buttons on the audio system.
Can I continue a Bluetooth® wireless technology call after I leave my Kia vehicle?
Yes. You will need to transfer the call from the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system back to the phone. To start this process, press Talk button on your steering wheel and hold it down for an extended period and then follow the prompts. You will then need to follow the process that is specific to your phone and you may need to consult your phone’s operating manual for more information.
Is there a time limit for entering the vehicle pairing pass code in the phone?
The Bluetooth® wireless technology system on your Kia vehicle does not place a time limit when you are pairing the phone to the Bluetooth® wireless technology system. The audio unit will continue to show the passkey until you have either entered the passkey or have canceled the operation.
Can I pair more than one phone to my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
Yes. Up to 5 phones can be paired or registered with the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system. If the maximum number of phones has already been paired when trying to pair an additional phone, a phone will need to be deleted from the list before a new phone can be paired.
If I’ve paired more than one phone with my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system, how does the system know which phone to use?
You will need to set the priority for the paired phones. To do this, please refer to your owner’s manual.
Can I remove a phone from my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system?
  1. Press Phone button next to touch screen.
  2. Select “Settings”.
  3. Select “Pairings”.
  4. Select “Phone” you wish to delete if it is not deleted.
  5. Select “Delete”.
  6. And then select “Yes” on the confirmation box.

You may also delete all phones by selecting “Advanced setup” from the Settings screen and then selecting “Delete all paired phones”.
When I’m using the Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology system, sometimes the display changes, why is that?
The screen display will change depending on whether or not the vehicle is in motion. Therefore, if you begin a call when the vehicle is not in motion and then begin to drive, you will see a change in display.
Sometimes my Kia Bluetooth® wireless technology operation is temporarily interrupted when I’m talking, what may cause that?
Because the hands-free functions of the Kia Bluetooth® wireless system are activated and controlled through voice recognition fed through microphones, there are circumstances which can affect or interrupt the operation of the system. Factors which can impact operation may include talking at the same time as the other party, not speaking clearly towards the microphone, or background noise interference. Excess background noise can interfere with the voice recognition functions and can include driving on a rough road, driving at high speeds, driving with the window open, pointing air conditioning vents at the microphone, or even operating the air conditioning fan at the highest level.
My Blackberry Phone doesn’t always automatically connect when I get into my vehicle.
For Blackberry phones and other phones that synchronize to Outlook or are email capable, if an email is being transmitted or received at the time you are entering the vehicle, the Bluetooth® wireless technology connection may not occur – the phone resources are consumed by the email and the Bluetooth® wireless technology is not active. The phone should be able to connect manually through the menus.
