  • Function and Design

Brake pads are made of steel backing plates with friction materials bound to the surface that faces the disc brake rotor. When the brake pedal is applied a hydraulic force is applied to the brake pads creating a friction on the rotating brake disc. This friction converts kinetic energy into thermal energy. In this manner the speed of the vehicle is reduced as required by the driver. The friction material wears over time at a rate dependent upon driving environment, driver braking characteristics and kilometers travelled. The brakes require periodic inspection as per the owner’s manual or as recommended by the Dealer based upon vehicle usage.
